Abstract
Blood volume is a function of body metabolic requirements. Body requirements vary and change in the presence of pathologic states. So measuring of circulating blood volume is important to determine average normal values and the ranges of individual variation in order to provide a sound basis for evaluating the significance of deviations observed under various physiological and pathological conditions.
In order to measure total circulating blood volume, I-131 (radio-active iodinated human serum albumin) and two-position scintillation counter was used.
Under these objectives the blood volume was determine on 48 healthy korean (17 men and 31 women).
The determined values were as follows:
1. Hemoglobin 14.9¡¾1.4 gm/dl in males 12.9¡¾1. 1 gm/dl in females
Hematocrit 44.8¡¾4.3% in males 38.7¡¾3.3% in females
2. Total blood volume
Body weight formula 75.0¡¾6.9 ml/kg in males
74.7¡¾5.9 ml/kg in females
Body surface formula 2876.1¡¾761.9ml/M2
in males 2525.3¡¾197.7 ml/Ma in females
